About this pattern
This stunning Atlas Moth pattern spreads its magnificent wings against a dramatic black background, framed by a rich crimson border with golden corner stars. The moth itself is a feast of warm, earthy colour — deep burgundy and burnt sienna sweep across the hindwings, while the upper wings glow with bold orange and cream, all outlined in golden amber and accented with the moth's iconic serpent-head wingtip markings rendered in sweeping curves of black and ivory. Above the moth, a golden arch frames a triple moon phase in warm gold and amber, flanked by four-pointed stars, lending the whole composition a wonderfully mystical, nocturnal atmosphere.
Lush dark green foliage and deep red blooms rise up from the bottom border and cascade down the sides, grounding the design in rich botanical folk-art tradition. Every element — from the boldly stylised wing eyespots to the striped body and symmetrical leaf sprays — is crafted for raw-edge fusible applique, making each piece a satisfying puzzle of colour and shape that comes together into something truly breathtaking on the quilt frame.

🦋 ABOUT THIS DESIGN: the moth is mirror-symmetric, so almost every shape is cut twice - it sews up faster than the piece count suggests. The palette runs through seven closely related reds and rusts, and they are what give the wings their depth, so lay your fabrics side by side and check them against the colour chart before you cut.
🎨 SKILL LEVEL: Beginner to Intermediate - the project uses raw-edge fusible applique and basic quilting techniques.

Every pattern in this shop is my own work, from the first line to the last page. I draw each design by hand as an original vector illustration in Adobe Illustrator, then develop it into a ready-to-sew applique pattern - every cutting line, every fabric colour, every template page and instruction. Each one takes time and a lot of care, and I hope that comes through when you stitch it.
